Ubuntu: Problem with Java and Foreign Language Text Reader

Question:

Previously, I had Ubuntu Studio 17.04, and FLTR (Foreign Language Text Reader) ran just fine, but yesterday, I upgraded to Ubuntu Studio 18.04, I'm using open JDK 11 , and now I cannot get FLTR to run. If I try to run it w/ the task manager open, a java process pops up for about 2 seconds, then goes red, and disappears. Other than that, it shows no sign of doing anything. If I try to open it through terminal using "java -jar FLTR.jar" i get:

Exception in thread "AWT-EventQueue-0" java.lang.NullPointerException at java.desktop/sun.awt.SunToolkit.getImageFromHash(SunToolkit.java:653) at java.desktop/sun.awt.SunToolkit.getImage(SunToolkit.java:689) at fltrpackage.Utilities.showInfoMessage(Utilities.java:622) at fltrpackage.Utilities.checkJavaVersion(Utilities.java:96) at fltrpackage.Application.createAndShowGUI(Application.java:70) at fltrpackage.Application.access$000(Application.java:35) at fltrpackage.Application$1.run(Application.java:147) at java.desktop/java.awt.event.InvocationEvent.dispatch(InvocationEvent.java:313) at java.desktop/java.awt.EventQueue.dispatchEventImpl(EventQueue.java:770) at java.desktop/java.awt.EventQueue.access$600(EventQueue.java:97) at java.desktop/java.awt.EventQueue$4.run(EventQueue.java:721) at java.desktop/java.awt.EventQueue$4.run(EventQueue.java:715) at java.base/java.security.AccessController.doPrivileged(Native Method) at java.base/java.security.ProtectionDomain$JavaSecurityAccessImpl.doIntersectionPrivilege(ProtectionDomain.java:87) at java.desktop/java.awt.EventQueue.dispatchEvent(EventQueue.java:740) at java.desktop/java.awt.EventDispatchThread.pumpOneEventForFilters(EventDispatchThread.java:203) at java.desktop/java.awt.EventDispatchThread.pumpEventsForFilter(EventDispatchThread.java:124) at java.desktop/java.awt.EventDispatchThread.pumpEventsForHierarchy(EventDispatchThread.java:113) at java.desktop/java.awt.EventDispatchThread.pumpEvents(EventDispatchThread.java:109) at java.desktop/java.awt.EventDispatchThread.pumpEvents(EventDispatchThread.java:101) at java.desktop/java.awt.EventDispatchThread.run(EventDispatchThread.java:90)

As far as I can tell, I have everything set up the same as I had previously, but just can't get it to run. -_-
