Ubuntu: Cinelerra Timeline Issue

I'm new to Ubuntu/Linux. A friend recommended it to me (he's been using Linux for years), and so I thought I'd give it a try. I was previously using Mac OS X Mountain Lion, but compatibility with applications was becoming an issue, since things were phased out (I can run OS Sierra and High Sierra, but I think they are trash...and Sierra ruined my computer). Anyways...so far, things have been alright. I've had some problems, but they've been easy to solve.

However, I'm having difficulty finding a video editor that allows for both video and audio speed change (without affecting the pitch of the audio).

It looks like Cinelerra allows this. The only problem is, when I open my video (which is in MP4 format) and hit play, I'm unable to stop the video. The time line keeps going, and I can't quit the application (without using System Monitor). I've already checked the box that says "Stop playback lock ups." It hasn't fixed it.

Any ideas on how to fix this? I'm running Ubuntu 16.04 and Cinelerra 2.3-20171008-PPA.

It's also worth noting that when I try to slow down the audio in Audacity, the audio gets glitchy. Which is why it's important to me, to get Cinelerra working. Or to find an alternative program/method.
