Ubuntu: Webcam not detected on Acer Aspire VN7-571G

Been pulling my hair out over this one because more and more services REQUIRE a webcam to continue - which is utter BS in my opinion, but we're all being forced to give up all of our data these days.

My webcam used to work, but due to constant buginess, kernel panics and other such atrocities i did a full re-install of Ubuntu 16.04 on my machine with a nice, shiny, brand new SSD. Everything's great! Even the bluetooth which once sucked is good!

But... my webcam is no longer visible. Cheese doesn't see it, lsusb gives me only:

Current kernel: 4.10.0-40-generic

There's no fn+ webcam button, I'm using the nvidia GE force GTX 950M additional driver as well as an Intel microcode processor firmware, but the webcam never shows.

Any ideas?
