Ubuntu: Why do the partitions on my SD card keep reappearing after I delete them?

On my Ubuntu laptop with an SD card reader, I tried to write a Raspberry Pi image to an SD card, and it caused a (possibly) unrelated issue with my RPi resetting the whole filesystem after a reboot and giving me errors about filesystem corruption. I tried to delete the two partitions now on the card, and gparted said that went fine, but as soon as it refreshes, the partitions pop back up as if nothing ever happened to them. Is there anything I can do to make sure they actually delete, or is my SD card corrupt forever? Did something else happen? Thanks in advance for your help.
