Ubuntu: Unable to install Vlc in Ubuntu 15.04 64bit [closed]

Question:

I am using Ubuntu 15.04. When I try to install vlc, I get this error.

Reading package lists... Done Building dependency tree Reading state information... Done Some packages could not be installed. This may mean that you have requested an impossible situation or if you are using the unstable distribution that some required packages have not yet been created or been moved out of Incoming. The following information may help to resolve the situation: The following packages have unmet dependencies: vlc : Depends: libgles1-mesa (>= 7.8.1) but it is not going to be installed or libgles1 E: Unable to correct problems, you have held broken packages.

Someone asked to run following commands but it did not work

sudo apt-get update --fix-missing sudo apt-get install -f

I also tried solution given in this question but it does not work. Can any one tell me how I can do this?

Solution:1

Remove all of vlc by command:

sudo apt-get purge vlc-data

And retry by:

sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get install vlc

If not working then try this:

  1. Remove all software from non-Ubuntu source

    sudo apt-get autoremove vlc
  2. Disable the non-Ubuntu source. Go to System Settings --> Software & Updates --> Other Software, and uncheck the offending source. If you can't remember which non-Ubuntu source you added to get VLC, then disable them all.

  3. now run

sudo apt-get update sudo apt-get upgrade sudo apt-get install VLC
