Ubuntu: How to repair Ubuntu after crash during upgrade?

Question:

during an upgrade from 14.04 to 16.04 my computer crashed and now won't boot properly. When it's loading up, I get the message that "Failed to start Load Kernel Modules", and then goes straight to terminal. Also, if I try to start lightdm, it asks me to login and then goes right back to the login screen. When I run apt-get iodate, I get many notifications saying "Failed to fetch http://ca.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu..." I figure that there are several problems here and would appreciate any help.

Also, I tried to reinstall the system from disk but the laptop (Asus N53SV) won't boot from dvd.
