Ubuntu: can I upgrade ubuntu 14.04 LTS 64 bit from 13.10 32 bit [duplicate]

This question already has an answer here:

Currently I am using ubuntu 13.10 32 bit version. Can I upgrade it to ubuntu 14.04 64 bit version?

While it is theoretically possible to upgrade from 32-bit to 64-bit it is STRONGLY recommend that you do a clean install, especially in the case of upgrading a version AND at the same time, changing the architecture of it (From 32-bit to 64-bit). This should not be done (Not even recommended) because of the amount of problems that could and will appear, not to mention the amount of work, time and energy you will need for it to work.

Since you are currently using 13.10, simply do a backup of your needed files and do a fresh install of 14.04 64 bit. You will save 99.99% of the time you would need if you went from 32 to 64 on it.
